In the State of Iowa, 2 out of every 5 minorities will graduate from High School, a contributing factor in the minority unemployment rate; and a known correlation to crime, health deterioration, and personal growth. Why should we continue to depend on government assistance on the back-end, when we, as a community could do more on the front-end. We can no longer allow the vicious cycles of struggle to entangle us. A proactive solution starts with our youth.

During my year of service, I am committed to P.A.T.H.S. Preparing Adolescents to Harness Success. Gandhi once said, "Be the change you wish to see in the world." As an adolescent myself, I remember that I could never be satisfied as many adolescents feel. And I was fortunate to be surrounded by people that put the duty to change things in my hand. Our youth should be constantly reminded that they are the change. But they need to know how they can change.

Through mentorship and professional development, children are more likely to commit and invest themselves to a purpose. P.A.T.H.S., a network of youth, professionals, organizations, educational institutions, and government institutions with work to ensure that no child be led astray.
